DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P059F, P05AE
DTC P059F:Shutter Grille Assembly (Upper) Malfunction
DTC P05AE:Shutter Grille Assembly (Lower) Malfunction

General Description

The shutter grille system open/closes the shutter depending on the driving conditions. The system improves fuel efficiency by reducing the wind drag. The shutter is controlled by the shutter grille which integrates the actuator. The powertrain control module (PCM) sends open/close requests which depends on the driving conditions to the shutter grille via the LIN line. If the upper or lower actuator is detected as abnormal, the PCM confirms the abnormality and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Either of these conditions occurs for at least 2.5 seconds:
The upper or lower actuator does not reach the fully open position or the fully closed position by initial learning in the fully open position or fully closed position + 12% or more of the opening with respect to the position.

The upper or lower actuator does not reach the fully open or fully closed position by rotated 125 ° or more.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

DTC: P059F
Internal gear damage of upper actuator
Upper shutter grille fins
Torque transmission part of the upper shutter grille (link lever, link lower actuator)
Upper actuator

DTC: P05AE
Internal gear damage of lower actuator
Lower shutter grille fins
Torque transmission part of the lower shutter grille (link lever, link lower actuator)
Lower actuator

Common
PCM internal circuit failure

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the PGM-FI display comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the ECM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The PGM-FI display is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The PGM-FI display, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
