Cross Traffic Monitor System Description
The Blind Spot Information (BSI) radar unit emits radar waves from the left and right BSI radar and detects other vehicles in the blind spot. Cross Traffic Monitor system function uses the BSI radar unit.

The cross traffic monitor system's alerting arrows are displayed on the rearview camera image of the center display unit when the vehicle is in reverse. When an approaching vehicle enters the cross traffic monitor alert zone, the cross traffic monitor warns the driver with a warning indicator and an audible alarm.

If the BSI radar unit malfunctions, the cross traffic monitor system stops operating. The vehicle alerts the driver that there is a problem by turning on the BSI indicator on the gauge control module, and the cross traffic monitor indicator is shown on the rearview camera image when the vehicle is in reverse gear.

Radar Zone Definition
The BSI radars are installed on the left and right sides of the rear body panel and covered by the bumper. The mounting positions are symmetrical on the left and the right.

Cross Traffic Monitor System
When the BSI radar has a clear view of the environment around it, the cross traffic monitor system will warn to approaching vehicles.

The cross traffic monitor system evaluates the approaching target's speed, time to potential collision and location in the cross traffic monitor system's alert zone to decide if the system should warn or not warn the driver.

Detection Conditions
Parameter
Warn
Your vehicle speed
less than 3 mph (5 km/h)
Time to collision
1.2 to 3.2 seconds
Target closing speed
More than 6 mph (10 km/h), 16 mph (25 km/h) or less
Detection range
Less than 8.3 m (27.2 ft) or based on time to collision (up to 25m (82.0 ft))

The system defines the time to collision, measured in seconds, that it takes for the target vehicle traveling at its current speed to reach the line L when the target vehicle is approaching perpendicular (between line A and B) to the customer's vehicle. If the target vehicle is approaching from a wider angle (between line B and C), the time to collision is measured by how long it takes the target vehicle traveling at its current speed to reach point B.

Detection Range
Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) system
When driving in reverse, the blind spot information radar unit monitors vehicles approaching from behind your vehicle. When detecting a vehicle approaching from behind, the unit sends the information to the audio-navigation unit via B-CAN line. When receiving the information, the audio-navigation unit gives the warning to the driver by displaying "<<" (a warning arrow) on the rearview camera image. An audible alarm is generated by the meter. The warning indicates left, right or both. The cross traffic monitor system gives a warning depending on the position, speed of the target vehicle in the detection range and the time remaining to the collision.
