Fuel Tank Unit/Fuel Filter Removal, Installation, Disassembly, and Reassembly

Flammable - Keep Fire Away

	Replace

1.	Fuel Pressure - Relieve

2.	Rear Seat Cushion - Lift

3.	Fuel Tank Unit Access Panel - Remove

4.	Connector (Fuel Tank Unit) - Disconnect

5.	Fuel Line Quick-Connect Fitting - Disconnect

Place a rag or shop towel (A) over the quick-connect fitting.

Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel tank unit.

6.	Fuel Tank Unit Cam Lock Ring - Unlock

Set the fuel sender wrench as shown.

Turn the fuel tank unit cam lock ring (A) counterclockwise.

NOTE: Try to keep the fuel sender wrench from floating.

7.	Fuel Tank Unit - Remove

NOTE: Be careful not to bend or twist the fuel level sensor arm (A) excessively.

1.	Fuel Tank Unit - Install

NOTE: Be careful not to bend or twist the fuel level sensor arm (A) excessively.

Insert the fuel tank unit (B) partially into the fuel tank with a new O-ring (C).

Be careful not to damage the new O-ring.

Do not coat the base gasket with oil.

Align the tab (A) of the fuel tank unit as shown, and temporarily insert the new fuel tank unit cam lock ring (B).

2.	Fuel Tank Unit Cam Lock Ring - Lock

Rotate the fuel tank unit cam lock ring (A) and slide the fuel tank unit cam lock tabs (B) into the positioning edge (C) slightly as shown by hand.

NOTE: Confirm the fuel cam lock ring is not floating.

Using the fuel sender wrench, turn the fuel tank unit cam lock ring (A) clockwise.

NOTE:

Try to keep the fuel sender wrench from floating.

Securely set the positioning edge (B) of the fuel tank at the fuel tank unit cam lock ring tabs (C) on the fuel tank unit cam lock ring as shown.

3.	Fuel Line Quick-Connect Fitting - Connect

Connect the quick-connect fitting (A) to the fuel tank unit.

4.	Fuel Leak - Check

Connect the fuel tank unit connector (A).

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not start the engine. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel line will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.

Install the access panel (B) to the floor.

The fuel filter should be replaced whenever the fuel pressure drops below the specified value, after making sure that the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator are OK.

1.	Fuel Gauge Sending Unit - Remove

NOTE: Be careful not to bend or twist the fuel level sensor arm excessively.

2.	E-Ring - Remove

3.	Reservoir - Remove

4.	Fuel Pressure Regulator - Remove

5.	Fuel Pump Harness - Remove

6.	Fuel Pump - Remove

7.	All Removed Parts - Install

Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE:

Coat the O-rings with clean engine oil; do not use any other oil or fluid.

Do not pinch the O-rings during installation.

When installing the fuel level sensor unit, make sure the connection is secure and the connector is firmly locked into place. Be careful not to bend or twist it excessively.

When connecting the wire harness, make sure the connection is secure and the connectors are firmly locked into place.

Use all the new parts supplied in the replacement kit.
