Measure the resistance between fuel tank unit 4P connector (male terminals) No. 2 and No. 4 with the float at E (EMPTY), LOW (LOW FUEL INDICATOR) and F (FULL) positions. If you do not get the following readings, replace the fuel tank unit.
USA and Canada models
Float Position
F 8.815 in (223.9 mm)
1/2 3.929 in (99.8 mm)
LOW 1.39 in (35.3 mm)
E 0.642 in (16.3 mm)
Resistance (?)
19 to 21
193 to 203
464.4 to 656.6
772 to 788
Except USA and Canada models
Float Position
F 8.657 in (219.9 mm)
1/2 4.118 in (104.6 mm)
LOW 1.331 in (33.8 mm)
E 0.602 in (15.3 mm)
Resistance (?)
19 to 21
190.6 to 200.6
464.5 to 644.1
772 to 788
2.
Reconnect the fuel tank unit connector.
3.
Remove the No. A18 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the No. D7 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box for at least 10 seconds, then reinstall it.
4.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
5.
Check that the pointer of the fuel gauge indicates F with the float at F.
The pointer of the fuel gauge returns to the bottom of the gauge dial when turned the vehicle in the ACCESSORY or OFF (LOCK) mode, regardless of the fuel level.
Remove the No. A18 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the No. D7 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box for at least 10 seconds after completing the test, otherwise it may take up to 20 minutes for the fuel gauge to indicate the correct fuel level.
