Electrical Compass Zone Selection and Calibration

NOTE:
You should do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced.
You should do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, other vehicles, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields.
If you see ‘‘??’’ and the CAL indicator is shown in the audio display, the electrical compass unit is self-calibrating.
In most areas, there is a variation between magnetic north and true north. The compass zone needs to be set to your geographic zone to compensate for this variation.
The electrical compass unit may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass unit seems to be continually showing the wrong direction, and is not self-calibrating, do the following.

1. Electrical Compass Zone Selection and Calibration

Zone Selection

1.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

2.
Press and hold the DISPLAY MODE (enu_1740914_1.0) button until you hear a beep (about 5 seconds). The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.

3.
Rotate the LIST knob to select Zone (A), and press the SELECT button to enter the selection.

NOTE: If necessary, press the BACK button to return to the previous display. Pressing the MENU button cancels the electrical compass setting mode.

4.
The display shows the currently selected zone number between from 1 to 15. Find the zone for your area on the zone map. If the correct zone is not shown, turn the LIST knob to cycle the zone lists up or down.

5.
Press the SELECT button to decide the selected zone. Returning to the normal display, the zone selection mode ends.

Calibration

Although the compass is self-calibrating, it may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the compass is blinking and CAL is shown on the display, do this to calibrate the compass:

1.
Start the engine.

2.
Press and hold the DISPLAY MODE (enu_1740914_1.0) button until you hear a beep (about 5 seconds). The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.

3.
Rotate the LIST knob to select Calibration (A) and press the SELECT button to enter the selection.

NOTE: If necessary, press the BACK button to return to the previous display. Pressing the MENU button cancels the electrical compass setting mode.

4.
The display shows the Push CAL Start (A). Press the SELECT button to enter the selection.

5.
When the display shows Push CAL Start, press the SELECT button. The compass display blinks and the CAL indicator (B) comes on.

6.
Drive the vehicle slowly in three complete circles (20 seconds or more per a circle). When the calibration is successfully completed, the compass display stops blinking and the CAL indicator goes off.

NOTE:
The audio system is not related to the electrical compass system. Even if the electrical compass system is calibrating, the display returns to the normal display which was last selected.
If the calibration fails, try another location (an open area away from buildings, power lines, other vehicles, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields) and do the calibration procedure again.
