DTC B0001-12: Short to Power in the Driver's Airbag First Inflator

Special Tools Required

?SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A

?SRS Simulator Lead K 070AZ-SNAA200

NOTE:

	Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number and were properly installed.
	Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, General Troubleshooting Information, and 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection.

?1.	Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

?2.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

?3.

Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B0001-12 indicated?


	YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.


	NO

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.?

Driver's airbag inflator check:

Driver's airbag inflator check

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

?3.	Remove the driver's airbag.

?4.

Disconnect the following connector.

Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (on the cable reel harness)

?5.	Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.

?6.	Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

?7.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

?8.

Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B0001-12 indicated?


	YES

Go to step 3.


	NO

Short to power in the driver's airbag first inflator; replace the driver's airbag, then clear the DTC.?

Cable reel check:

Cable reel check

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

?3.	Remove the jumper wire from the driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector on the cable reel harness.

?4.	Remove the column covers.

?5.	Disconnect cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

?6.	Connect the terminals of SRS simulator lead K to the SRS inflator simulator (2 ? connectors), then connect SRS simulator lead K to cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

?7.	Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.

?8.	Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

?9.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

?10.

Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B0001-12 indicated?


	YES

Go to step 4.


	NO

Short to power in the cable reel; replace the cable reel, then clear the DTC.?

Shorted wire check (LA1?, LA1? lines to power):

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

?3.

Disconnect the following connector.

SRS unit connector A (39P)

?4.	Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from SRS simulator lead K. Do not disconnect SRS simulator lead K from cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

?5.	Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.

?6.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?7.

Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
	Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (on the cable reel harness): disconnected
	Cable reel connector B (4P) (on the dashboard wire harness): disconnected
	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
	Cable reel connector B (4P) (on the dashboard wire harness): connected to SRS simulator lead K
Test point 1	SRS simulator lead K black terminal
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there 0.2 V or less?


	YES

The LA1? and LA1?wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or replace the SRS unit. If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.?


	NO

Short to power in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.?
