DTC B1836: Power Seat Position Sensor circuit short
NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

B1836 Power Seat Position Sensor circuit short
 

1.
Problem verification:

Problem verification
?1.
Clear the DTCs with the HDS.


?2.
Press the engine start/stop switch at least twenty times, then wait for at least 20 seconds.

?3.
Operate the power seat adjustment switch in all directions for more than 1 second each.

?4.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1836 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.?
2.
Shorted wire check (VCC line):

Shorted wire check (VCC line)

Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connectors.
Power seat control unit connector A (20P)
Slide motor/position sensor 5P connector
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector
Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector
Recline motor/position sensor 6P connector

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Power seat control unit connector A (20P): disconnected
Slide motor/position sensor 5P connector: disconnected
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Recline motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Test point 2
Body ground

Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to ground in the wire.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The VCC wire is not shorted. Go to step 3.
3.
Motor check (Slide, Front up-down, Rear up-down, Recline):

Motor check (Slide, Front up-down, Rear up-down, Recline)

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Power seat control unit connector A (20P): disconnected
Slide motor/position sensor 5P connector: disconnected
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Recline motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Slide motor/position sensor 5P connector (male terminals) No. 2:
Test point 2
Body ground (motor body)

Test point 1
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2
Body ground (motor body)

Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector (male terminals) No. 1:

Slide motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty slide motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Front up-down motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty front up-down motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Rear up-down motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty rear up-down motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Recline motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty recline motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
