Engine Oil Pump Chain Removal, Installation, and Inspection

2. Universal Lifting Eyelet - Attach

1.
Remove the alternator mounting bolt.





2.
Attach the universal lifting eyelet to the alternator.


NOTE: Do not disconnect the hose.

6. Engine Support Hanger - Install

1.
Install the engine support hanger as shown.


2.
Attach the hook to the slotted hole in the universal lifting eyelet (A).

3.
Tighten the wing nut (B) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

NOTE:
Be careful when working around the windshield.
Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.

8. Oil Pump Chain Tensioner - Remove


1.
Loosely install the crankshaft pulley.

2.
To hold the front balancer shaft, insert a 6 mm long pin punch (A) (Snap-on PPC108LA or equivalent) into the maintenance hole in the balancer shaft holder and through the front balancer shaft.

3.
Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to compress the oil pump chain.

4.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.





5.
Align the holes on the lock (A) and the oil pump chain auto-tensioner (B), then insert a 2.0 mm (5/64 in) diameter pin (C) into the holes. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to secure the pin.





6.
Remove the oil pump chain auto-tensioner.

1. Oil Pump Chain - Install

1.
Set the crankshaft to top dead center (TDC). Align the TDC mark (A) on the crankshaft sprocket with the pointer (B) on the engine block.





2.
Install the oil pump chain on the crankshaft sprocket with the colored link plate (A) aligned with the TDC mark (B) on the crankshaft sprocket.





3.
Set the oil pump chain on the oil pump chain sprocket (A) with the punch mark (B) aligned with the center of the two colored link plate (C).

2. Oil Pump Chain Auto-Tensioner - Install

1.
Turn the plate (A) counterclockwise, to release the lock, then push the oil pump chain arm (B), and set the first cam (C) to the first edge of the rack (D). Insert a 2.0 mm (5/64 in) diameter pin (E) into the hole (F).

NOTE: If the oil pump chain auto-tensioner is not set up as described, the oil pump chain auto-tensioner will become damaged.





2.
Install the oil pump chain auto-tensioner.





3.
Remove the pin (A) from the oil pump chain auto-tensioner.

4. Engine - Support

1.
Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the oil pan.

9. Alternator Mounting Bolt - Install


2. Oil Pump Chain - Inspect

1.
Measure the oil pump chain rod length. If the length is over the service limit, replace the oil pump chain.

Service Limit:
10.4 mm (0.409 in)

3. All Removed Parts - Install

1.
Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
