DTC Troubleshooting: B1386
DTC B1386: Power Tailgate sensor Pulse A circuit malfunction
NOTE:
If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.
If the motor does not operate, do the motor test first.

1.
Problem verification 1:

Clear the DTCs with the HDS.


?2.
Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle switch.

?3.
Close the tailgate automatically with the keyless transmitter or power tailgate inside switch.

?4.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1386 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.?

Is DTC B1387 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 4.

Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL SVCC line):

Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL SVCC line)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connector.
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P)

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF(LOCK) mode
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   
Test point 1
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 4:
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to ground in the wire.?
     
NO
     
     
     
4.
Determine possible failure area (power tailgate sensor, others):

Determine possible failure area (power tailgate sensor, others)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connector.
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P)

?3.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?4.
Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle ON mode
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   
Test point 1
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there about 5V?

     
YES
     
     
     
Faulty power tailgate sensor; replace the power tailgate drive unit.?
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 5.
5.
Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL SENA line):

Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL SENA line)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
   
Test point 1
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to ground in the wire.?
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 6.
6.
Open wire check (PTG/PTL SENA line):

Open wire check (PTG/PTL SENA line)
?1.
Disconnect the following connector.
Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P): disconnected
Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
   
Test point 1
Power tailgate drive unit connector B (6P) (male terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.?
